Announced January 27-31, 2021 in Paso Robles, CA
Entry fee of $2 per judge for all Amateur, Select Amateur, Novice Amateur (L1), Youth and Novice Youth (L1) classes
Over $29,000 of sponsorship raised to support the New Year Celebration, including sponsoring 14 event highpoint and pattern class high point awards
A new six judge AQHA and PCQHA approved American Quarter Horse circuit called the “New Year Celebration” is set for January 27-31, 2021 at the Paso Robles Event Center by Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association and California Quarter Horse Association. “PCQHA created this show in January, because Pacific Coast Quarter Horse members asked for an AQHA show at the beginning of the year in California including a PCQHA approved Youth Qualifying Show,” said Chris Hocutt, PCQHA President, “PCQHA directors’ brainstormed to find a way to add a show in January and with the help of the Paso Robles Event Center created this 6-judge Quarter Horse show with a full slate of Rail, Trail, English, Western, Ranch, Cattle and Speed Event classes”.
An exciting part of the New Year Celebration is that the entry fee for all Amateur, Select Amateur, Novice Amateur (L1), Youth and Novice Youth (L1) will be just $2 per judge. “How many AQHA and PCQHA approved shows can an amateur or youth show in a class to six judges for a total of $12?” said Past President Marc Ristow, a key driver behind the low entry fees at the New Year Celebration. “The financial success of “The Celebration” at South Point in Las Vegas in July has encouraged PCQHA to experiment and lower entry fees at the New Year Celebration as a benefit to all of the PCQHA membership regardless of the event they show in or where they are located in California” said Marc.
In addition to $2 entry fees, generous sponsors from across the state and across disciplines have come together to sponsor high point awards in 14 events or pattern classes. “We felt it was very important that we recognized outstanding horses and riders in all events, not just the all-around horses and riders” said Jan Brown, Chair of the Awards Subcommittee. Highpoint awards will be given in trail, ranch riding, western pleasure, western riding, hunter under saddle, reining, cutting, working cow horse and speed events as well as to the highpoint pattern horse (horsemanship, hunt seat equitation and showmanship) in Amateur, Select Amateur, Novice Amateur (L1), Youth and Novice Youth (L1). The top placing horse in all 14 categories will receive a stunning signature trophy of the legendary three PCQHA horseheads, the reserve horse will receive an embroidered “World Show” type embroidered vest and the 3rd place horse will receive a leather with engraved plate New Year Celebration halter.
“The timing of this AQHA circuit is awesome for youth qualifying”, said Kellie Hinely, the PCQHA Youth Advisor, “Youth exhibitors and trainers have been looking for a show early in the year where they can get a jump on youth qualifying The New Year Celebration is a perfect start to the show year”.
The Paso Robles Event Center has three covered arenas, including the new Pavilion, which includes 90 stalls and the adjacent livestock barns with another 140 under cover. In addition, all other stalls have overhangs so exhibitors and horses will be protected from any weather. And because the Paso Robles Event Center has almost completely renovated the horse areas, horses and riders will not be slogging through mud going to and from arenas if there is rain.
The New Year Celebration will replace PCQHA’s Fall Classic Quarter Horse show. Like its’ sister show in Las Vegas, “The Celebration”, the New Year Celebration Circuit will set standards for prizes and awards and show management with Bill Enk confirmed as show manager and Duane Elkins as the show secretary will be well run and welcoming to all.
Thanks to the many sponsors who have already generously donated to assure the show’s success including THE EMO AGENCY, Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association, Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Youth Association, California Quarter Horse Association, Marc Ristow/Lazy K Bar T Quarter Horses, Kellie Hinely/Trendsetter Performance Horses, Kathryn Mitchell/ Oak Spring Ranch, Cece Campbell, Cathy Hanson, Cherie Vonada/Hanson Quarter Horses, Sandy Arledge, Judy Bonham, Stacey Dial/Sterling Custom Saddles, Jan Brown, Kristine Brooks, Debbie Lundberg, Mission Oaks Quarter Horses, the Southwestern Pole Bending Association, Deb & Ron Shatley.
