SCRCHA January Cow Horse Kick Off

It was so great to come together as the cowhorse community of Southern California and show our horses. Our title sponsor “Equine Health Management” Dr. Doug Lawrence and Dr. Wayne McNeel were our title sponsors for the kickoff show. After the bustle of the holidays, it was a welcomed change to be back on our horses. We had a fun pizza party with wine tasting while handing out our 2023 Year End Champion buckles and awards.

We had fresh cows and chilly weather for Friday’s Cutting and Herd Work. Chele McGauly was our judge for the weekend. Open cutting was won by Kiana Cat ridden by Chris Delmer and Non Pro was won by Mark Gaiser aboard Spark N Boom. Junior horse blue went to Roy Rich aboard RR Lay Lady Rey. Open Herd Work classes were well attended with Jason Grimshaw riding Smart Magic Rebel taking first place. Lester Walker’s mount All Hail Da Vinci were winners in Non Pro Herd Work.

Ranch Riding classes had plenty of entries. The Ranch riders were ready to face the New Year with high scores! Standout performances were had by SmokeJumper, ridden by Rosie Cowley for owner Kristina Tracy in Junior Ranch Riding. Senior Ranch Riding was won by Make Mine A Juice, ridden and owned by Connie Bowman. Amateur Ranch Riding was won by Huckleberry Cat, by owner and rider Jenni Dawson. Jeanies Chic, ridden by Danica Anderson and owned by Gabriella Threadgill won the Youth Division.

Saturdays cowhorse standout winners were Half Past Boon, ridden by Roy A Rich and owned by Rocking J Ranch Inc. in Open Bridel. The Limited Open Bridle was won both Saturday and Sunday by Rob Grumann on LilRowdyOneTime, Open Hackamore was won by Magic Vintage Lace owned by David and Gina Kland, ridden by Craig A. Cowley.Both Saturday and Sunday Lisa Fonden swept the Non Pro Bridle Division aboard RJ Wheres My Sock. The Open Two Rein was won both Saturday and Sunday by DragnReys, owned by Paul Yoder and shown by Roy A Rich.

Youth Boxing and Junior Youth Boxing was won both days by Hayes Stroschein aboard Cee Mr Cats Merada owned by Julie Whipple. Newcomer Caylee R Perez riding her SmoothaRoo won the Youth Boxing. Cynthia Capetillo riding her Tisa Pale Face Peach won the Non Pro Boxing class and FTR Smart Smoke Linda A Kiernan won the Int Non Pro Boxing. Alexis Cole won the Ltd Non Pro Boxing both Saturday and Sunday aboard her own Whata Chic Olena TR, and Amy Diener won the Box Drive class aboard RR Brown Eyed Girl.

Spectacular winners were as follows:Open Spectacular Magic Vintage Lace Craig A. Cowley, Non Pro Bridle Spectacular RJ Wheres My Sock Lisa J. Fonden, Non Pro Boxing Spectacular FTR Smart Smoke Linda A Kiernan.

Sunday saw the temperatures still cold and the cowhorse competition hot! Open Bridle was won by RJ Piano Man, Jesus M. Roman the rider and Rocking J Ranch Inc. the owner. Lester Walker won both Saturday and Sunday on his own All Hail Da Vinci in Non Pro Hackamore and Snaffle bit. Youth Cow Horse was won by Wright On Holly Time, Skylyr A Jonkey rider, owner Rocking J Ranch Inc.

Non Pro Boxing was won by Sweet Little Ruby by owner/rider Natascha Benz Stevenson. Intermediate Non Pro Boxing was won by RR Brown Eyed Girl ridden by owner Amy Diener. Select Non Pro Boxing was won by Im Ichin To Smoke ridden and owned by Jenny Kelly. Linda Kiernan won the Box Drive Box on Sunday aboard FTR Smart Smoke.

Our March show has been replaced by a two day schooling show. We will still be at Tucalota Creek Ranch on Friday March 15th and Saturday March 16th. Watch for more information on this non judged, schooling opportunity.
