April 26th to 30th cutters descended on Murieta Equestrian Center for the annual El Rancho Spring Classic and the first leg of the 2023 Way Out West Cutting Series. The cutting arenas and environment at Rancho Murieta , have been likened to Wimbledon, therefore, referred to as the Wimbledon of Cutting. Starting in 2019, The Way-Out West Cutting series was the brainchild of Carol Anderson-Ward and Julie Clarke. The series was created to highlight top-cutting athletes, both human and horse, at some of the West’s best cutting horse shows in the Western states, including Oregon, Idaho, California, Arizona, and this year Calgary, Canada. Cutters compete for a rich purse in the Open, Non-Pro, and Amateur divisions while adding excitement and top-notch competition to viewers. Champion and Reserve Circuit Champions are crowned at the end of the series in Queen Creek, AZ by having the highest score totals.
