Fire Evacuations Cut the September SCRCHA Show Short

The last show of the show season for Southern California Reined Cowhorse was held at California Ranch Company in Temecula. It was, however, cut short due to the Fairview Fire.  The winds driven by Hurricane Kay were creating a dangerous fire situation. Thursday, September 8th was our first day of the show with Open Herd Work and a slate of Open Cowhorse divisions. As the winds continued to whip, and the fire perimeter spread, the show was called off for the 9, 10 and 11th.

California Ranch Company was host to a large number of evacuated horse from the surrounding fire zones.  As the day progressed, and the smoke became more prevalent, it was clear that some of the competitors needed to attend to their home barns with evacuation notices in place.

The performances by the diehard Cowhorse folks on Thursday were nonetheless noteworthy! The Open Bridle division was dominated by Jesus Roman aboard Half Past Boon, owner Rocking J Ranch, on whom he won the Open Bridle Spectacular.  Craig Cowley layed down a high score to capture the win in Open Hackamore and LTD Hackamore aboard Homecreek Twilight Cat. Wright On Holly Time with Roy Rich in the stirrups took the Junior Horse blue for owners Rocking J Ranch.  Jesus Roman riding Alexis Cole’s Chica Boom Boom RA won the Open Snaffle Bit

SCRCHA regrets that our show season was cut short due to Equine Herpes Virus in March, and the subsequent fire in September.  We will, unfortunately, not reschedule a makeup show.  The year end Championship and World Shows start to fill the calendars of trainers and exhibitors, and it would be impossible to schedule a show to accommodate that.

Thank you for all the competitors who showed and made the SCRCHA a success this past year! We will be hosting a stand alone Year End Awards Banquet, date to be announced.  SCRCHA looks forward to next year and will host shows in January, March, May, July and September of 2023. Look for our show dates in the California Horsetrader and on our website:
