Our July Southern California Reined Cowhorse Association show was held at California Ranch Company in Temecula. We added an extra day, due to the cancellation of our March show. The Equine Herpes Virus shut down competition throughout California and Arizona. The grounds were beautifully upgraded and the mild July temperatures were an added bonus. We usually melt during the summer shows, and were pleasantly surprised!
Our judge for the four days, Frank Craighead, was impressed with the cowhorses in the southland and rewarded our efforts with some big scores.
In the cutting pen, Alone Time with Lawson Hadlock won the Open Cutting, with Katherine Whitby aboard Dual Rider winning both Non Pro and Amateur Cutting. The Open Herdwork was dominated by Craig Cowley riding his own Hickory’s Lucky Time. The large Non Pro class was won by Ruth Noring riding her own Mister Olena Chic.
The Bridle Spectacular awards, a combined three event score, were earned by Roy Rich aboard Paul Yoder’s gelding DragnReys. Ruth Noring clinched the top spot for Non Pro on Mister Olena Chic. Vanessa Stevens took home the prize in Boxing aboard Smartest Hotshot.
